A bit about Maggi Baaring (1913-2004)
At 15, Maggi Baaring began at the Folmer Bonnén Painting and Drawing School. Then she apprenticed as a sign painter at Illum in Copenhagen. She quickly found her niche within the fashion and advertising branch(1928-33). Maggi's first exhibition was in Illums Bolighus in 1944. She experienced a festive and busy year when she met the comedian and actor, (the ''Revue King'') Stig pockets. She was commissioned to do the set design, posters and programs for a variety of revues in Hornbæk, ABC Theatre and Hermann Gellins Elsinore.
She was very well known and respected for her hundreds of beautiful posters but also for the many wonderful covers for "The Home" (hjemet) in the 1940s and 1950s. Danes loved her beautiful and light, personal style. Her illustrations are very easily recognizable. Her fast, casual line, complemented by bright watercolours portrayed female figures which are both sensual and innocent. She has illustrated erotic literature, painted portraits of, inter Alia, Suzanne Brøgger and many others. She took on poster orders through out most of his life, in addition to the ABC theater, she made posters to: Tivoli, FDB, National Association 'DANISH WORK', Bakken and many others.
